Transport

The public transport system works well in the UK although you will hear the locals complain about it. They seriously do not have anything to complain about!

In London there is an underground system call the Tube. There is also the overground train system running out of London and over the rest of the country. An Osyter card can be used on the Tube and on the Buses in London. This is a prepaid swipe card which can be topped up where ever you see the Oyster sign, outside cafes (as in ‘corner cafe’ not coffee shops) and also at the ticket offices on the stations.

The National Rail System operates all over the country and is run by different companies which cover different areas.

National Express is one coach company that operates country wide. There are others that will cover particular routes and areas.

When flying back home, some Carers choose to pay for a taxi to take then to the airport even if it is miles away. Paying £30 to £50 pounds for an easy ride is way less stressful than negotiating trains, buses, tubes, stations with no stairs, and you have to be over on the other platform!
