Health

Your priority is to keep yourself healthy and fit. If you do not take care of yourself, you cannot take care of anyone else.

In order to see a doctor under the (National Health Scheme) NHS, you need to register with a doctor in the area of your registered address. You will be allocated 10mins per appointment. If you have two ailments, let the receptionist know when making the appointment so she can book you two appointments.

If you need blood taken, it will be taken by specially trained staff. They are neither doctors nor nurses. Although in some private hospitals only doctors take blood.

Pap smears are done by the nurses.

If you are away from your base and your registered doctor, it is possible to see any NHS doctor in any area. You will have to say that you are staying in the area for a while and register as a temporary patient. In theory, any results of any tests that you have should be sent to your registered doctor.

Sometimes there is a delay on this or on occasion it does not happen, so it would be a good thing to make sure that you get copies of any results and pass this information to your doctor.
