Accommodation

Hopefully you have a relative or two who will offer you accommodation for the time when you are not working. A place to park some of your belongings and a place where you can hear the familiar South African accent and be fed braaied boerewors and pap! It is quite incredible how one misses that when away from home for a while.  And you never thought you would!!

If you are not lucky enough to have a kindly relative to put you up then your options include

•    B & B

This would suit you if you are just coming over for a few months of the year. It should not be difficult if you have internet access to find a B & B either close to the airport that you have come into, or near your client before you start your booking. This does of course incur expense and you can expect to pay anywhere from £ 30 upwards.

If you are the adventurous type and looking for somewhere to crash for a night…
•    Couch surfing

may be an option. Check out their website:  www.couchsurfing.org. This is a free service offered by folk who are interested in meeting other interesting folk. Sometimes they offer their couch or blow up mattress or if you are really lucky a bed in a spare room!  There is no cost involved but politeness dictates that you recompense your host in some way. You can pinpoint where you want to be by World Region, Country, County and town/city on the Couch Surfing website. Read the reviews by guests of the different hosts to help you decide. This service can be used when travelling anywhere in the world and so could reduce your holiday costs!

Your agency may be able to recommend a B & B or ask them if they know of anyone offering accommodation. Sometimes carers living in the UK offer a room for short periods to other carers.
